Boston Market – public market and farmers’ market
If you are looking for Boston Market aka Boston Chicken in Boston, you can check them out here. As for “markets in Boston”, besides Quincy Market, there are many marketplaces and public markets around downtown Boston. The definition of the word marketplace is getting vague these days. You may be thinking of the Faneuil Hall Marketplace which is a modern-looking shopping mall whereas the historic and real farmers’ markets in the Massachusetts marketplace will give you a very different experience. For example:
Historic Haymarket
Operated by the Haymarket Pushcart Association, this outdoor fruit and vegetable market has been running since 1830. It’s one of the locals’ favourite marketplaces especially when the fresh produce price can be half of the supermarkets’.
Haymarket opens on Friday and Saturday, starting around 6 a.m. through 6 p.m. though nothing is official. The vendors open or close their business depending on the weather.
Getting there is straightforward, the Haymarket station (MBTA Orange and Green lines) nearby was actually named after the Haymarket Square.
It is only 0.2 miles from the Quincy Market Mall, which is a 1-minute drive or 4-minute walk from the Quincy Market.
Address:
Blackstone Street, Boston, MA 02109
(between Hanover Street and North Street)
Opening hours:
No fixed hours, basically from dawn to dusk. The early you turn up, the better the quality of the produce you can get. Better price if you turn up after 3 p.m. but quality varies.
Boston public market
Boston public market emphasizes that they are the only “all local” food market in the United States. All fresh produce, seafood, meat, dairy products, baked goods and other specialities are made locally or originate in New England.
Getting there is pretty easy. It’s near to the Haymarket MBTA station and parking is nearby. If you drive, look for the Haymarket. It’s close to the Haymarket and the Blackstone Block.
